Getting Started: Multi-room Home

Below is a checklist for Design and Installation of multi-room homes.

Design

o  Begin by reading System Overview which explains how the system works and introduces vocabulary used throughout the application.

o  Select the desired applications from Home Automation Applications and How to do It which lists a large number of things you can do with home automation and explains what wires to pull. It also lists the 3rd party equipment that we work with in a given software release.

o  If you plan to install the Home Positioning System for handsfree automation, then read the Design Guide to learn about where to place sensors.

Hardware

o  Install your home Local Area Network (LAN) based on the following common Network Architecture.

o  Add Backup Power to make your network more reliable and maintainable.

o  Add one or more Domain 2000's to the design if more ports are needed.

o  Install devices and components throughout your home and wire them according to the diagrams in 3rd Party Applications. Find the right cables with the Cable Selection Guide.

o  Install the Domain Controller and the optional handsfree automation sensors. Note that the RF antenna of the Domain Controller should be always be pointing upward and should be as far away from other AV components as practical to get the best range from the remote control.

Software

o  Before beginning your first project, please Explore the Design Module to get an understanding of the overall Design Module functionality and walk through the Examples near the end of this manual.

o  Run the Design Module and Open a New Project.

o  Set the location of the house to determine sunrise and sunset in the Preferences Layer.

o  Add floor areas to the house in the same layer. This includes importing a gif or jpg of the floor area that will be used as the outline for drawing in the rooms. At this point the other infrastructure layers will become available to you.

o  Read the Tips for Drawing Rooms and then add rooms to the house in the Add Rooms Layer by tracing over the floor plan image. Edit those rooms to create doors and windows in the Edit Rooms Layer. Now you have captured the floor plan of the house. This will allow you to add devices and components to the appropriate rooms.

o  If you have multiple floor areas with steps leading between floor areas, you will want to combine those rooms in the Combine Rooms Layer.

o  Add the Domain Controller. Now all of the rest of the layers of the Design Module become available to you.

o  Use the Device Layers to add the devices and components that you want to monitor and control.

o  On the AV Entertainment layer, you can add all of your AV components. You will find the Device Description Files for a number of components in this software release and more on the Destiny web site. If necessary, you can use the Device Description Wizard to create your own.

o  Optionally, you can add the Home Positioning System using the HPS Layers to enable handsfree automation.

o  Find the Domain Controller on the network using Find My Destiny. Then save the project to it and use Check My Destiny to get everything up and running.

That's all. This will:
