Destiny Networks' Supported Devices

AV Components

The Domain controller controls most AV equipment. Our web site has a list of hundreds of components that are presently being used by other customers.

In addition, we offer a wizard that enables integrators to add additional AV components. It is usually pretty easy to add source components such as DVD players, VCRs, satellite and cable receiver, etc. It is also pretty easy to add TV’s, projector screens, and plasma and LCD displays. It is a little more difficult to add AV surround processors, but this can usually be accomplished. It is difficult to add audio and AV switches, but we would be glad to help if you can give us a little time.

The Domain controller supports a number of common IR formats and a number of serial CRC formats, but we may not support all formats. Please see the manual for more information. The Domain controller supports most ways of interconnecting AV equipment including the ability to define your own wire types and transcode them into other wire types. The Domain controller supports AV switches and a number of multizone AV surround receivers. The Domain controller does not support modulated video over coax in this release.

AV Distributed Audio Switches

Support for distributed audio switches can be classified in two different ways

  1. The Domain controller can control the following distributed audio switches: the Xantech ZPR 6810 and MRC 88 switches, the Russound CAV6.6, the Inline MSX 1616, the ADA Suite 16, and a number of other switches.

  2. The Domain controller can control the following distributed audio switches and receive commands directly from the keypads of these systems: the Xantech MRC 88, and the Russound CAV6.6. Note that if you want to use “Follow-me™ music” or “Play what’s playing in …” and you want to be able to turn on the music with the keypad of the distributed audio system, you will need to receive commands directly from the keypads of these systems. If, however, you want to use the keypads of an intelligent lighting system to control the audio in each room because those keypads are more elegant, then any of the systems in section K(1) will work fine.

AV Distributed Video Switches

The Domain controller supports the Xantech and Inline distributed video switches. The latter is capable of switching component video.

AV Drop down Screens and Plasma screen Lifts

The Domain 3000 has 4 relays and 2 voltage triggers. These relays and voltage triggers can be used for drop down screens and plasma screen lifts. Both Domain Controllers and can support an almost unlimited number of additional relays through external adaptors described in More Ports. The Domain controller automatically supports screens and lifts that operated by a single relay (the way that almost all of them work). To operate screens or lifts that require multiple relays, such as screens that support variable masking, a GUI Button may be required.

AV Remote Controls

Domain 3000

The Domain 3000 comes with its own remote control, the RC-1. The RC-1 has hard buttons for eight AV sources and also has hard buttons for transport, menu, and keypad functions. In addition, the RC-1 can be configured to control anything else in your home that is controllable by the Domain 3000. For example, you can control the lights, temperature, security system, curtains, fans, fireplaces, etc – provided those systems are also controllable from the Domain 3000.

The RC-1 sends an RF signal to the Domain 3000 with an address that is specific to each RC-1 remote control. Therefore, multiple theaters can be controlled by the same Domain 3000 - provided the antenna of the Domain 3000 can receive the signal for the room being controlled. The distance the RF signal can travel is very dependent on the home. At a trade show recently, the signal traveled well over 100 feet, but in real homes multipath distortion will greatly reduce that distance.

The RC-1 remote control also transmits an IR signal, simultaneously. The Domain 3000 cannot receive the IR signal itself, but a Global Cache can. Therefore, rooms that are out of reach of the RF signal can still be controlled by the Domain 3000 by placing a Global Cache GC-100 in that room.

The Domain 3000 can also receive RF signals directly from the Universal Remote Theater Master MX-850, MX-3000, and Philips Pronto TSU-7000. That means that you do not have to buy the RF extender for those remote controls - the RF signal they transmit can be directly received by the Domain 3000 controller.

Configure the Universal Remote Theater Master MX-850

Configure the Philips Pronto TSU-7000

Cameras

The Domain controller launches a web browser to the URL of an IP camera.  Example of IP cameras that are known to work with Ubiquity include:

  • The Panasonic KX-HCM family of indoor and outdoor, wired and wireless, pan, tilt, and zoom networked cameras,

  • The APEX family of cameras, and

  • The D-Link IP camera,

  • The JVC family of cameras.

Configure the Panasonic IP Camera

 Curtains and Shades

The Domain 3000 has 4 relays and 2 voltage triggers for functions like curtains and shades and can support an unlimited number of additional relays through external adaptors. The Domain controller supports motor control units that use two interlocking relays such as those made by BTX, SilentGliss, and Somfy. Connect the BMC or DR1000 motor control unit or equivalent to two relays of the Domain controller via 22/4 wire. The Domain controller does not support the control of the curtains and shades directly via IR commands in this release.

Displays

Destiny Networks supports all touch screen displays, tablet PC’s, panel PC’s, and laptops that run Windows XP or Windows XP tablet. This includes the Digital Technology, Inc line of wall mounted PCs that come in 6.4”, 10.4”, 12.1” and 15” models.

We also support a number of serial based displays including the Xantech line of SmartPad LCD displays (the SPLCD39G, SPLCD57G, SPLCD57G, and SPLCD64V displays).

Configure the Xantech SmartPad LCD Touch Screen Panel

Driveway Entry Gates

The Domain controller can open and close any driveway gate that can be controlled by a relay.

Door Strike

All relay controlled door strikes should work. This release does not provide additional support for door entry systems such as the Impro Proximity Controller .

Fireplaces

The Domain controller supports gas-fired fireplaces that:

  • Use an electronic ignition,

  • Can be controlled by an external remote control, and

  • For which there is access to the controls that turn on the fire.

The Domain controller does not support control of the fireplace directly via IR commands in this release. Furthermore, even when it is supported at some time in the future, we highly recommend the continued use of relays to provide a more reliable means of control and a known off state (that of the relay being open).

Fountains

The Domain controller supports all fountain motors that require less than 1/3 horsepower. If the fountain motor requires more power than that, you can use a high power solenoid to control the fountain and then use the Domain controller relay to energize the solenoid.

Home Positioning™ System

The Domain Controller supports handsfree automation.

HVAC Systems

The Domain controller supports the following intelligent HVAC controllers:

  • RCS in both RS-232 and RS-485 versions

  • Aprilaire

  • Vantage

This feature is now supported on the Domain 3000 in the 3.0 release. Please email support@destinynetworks.com to receive the key to turn on this layer. This feature is not supported on the Global Cache GC-100 in the Ubiquity 3.0 release.

Keypads

The Domain controller supports the following keypads:

  • Lutron Homeworks: KP10, KP5, LB6

  •  Lutron Homeworks SeeTouch (wired or wireless):1B, 2B, 3B, 3BRL, 4B, 4FS, 5B, 5FS, 5BRL, 6B, 6BRL, 7B

  • LiteTouch 5000LC: 3x3 and 4x2

  • Vantage: LCD320C5, 3X2 keypad, 4X2 keypad

For the Lutron, LiteTouch, and Vantage keypads, wire the keypads to the lighting control system and then wire a Cat 5E wire from the lighting control system to the Domain controller. The Cat 5E wire will provide an RS-232 signal between the two units.

Destiny also supports A/V keypads. See AV Distributed Audio Switches.

Lawn & Garden

The Domain Controller supports sprinkler systems that take a contact closure input to control the solenoids of the sprinklers.

Lighting Systems

The Domain controller supports the following lighting systems:

  • Lutron HWI wired: RPM’s; slim, large, designer, and SeeTouch keypads; Maestro switches; and Vareo switches (although, we do not recommend the use of the Vareo switches as they respond very slowly). Grafik Eye is supported when connected to the HWI processor. Grafik Eye directly connected to the Lutron RS-232 modem or via IR is supported, but is much less intuitive to configure than other lighting systems. GrafikRA scenes via serial and IR are supported in the less intuitive way, also. Please see Example Lutron RadioRA Scenes.

  • Sivoia shades could be controlled in the less intuitive way, also, but the control signals have not been added to our library at the time of this release.

  • CCI modules are supported to the extent that when signal is received on a CCI input, the HomeWorks system can be programmed to issue a UAPI command to execute a Group of Actions.

  • Lutron HWI RF: slim, large, designer, and SeeTouch keypads; and Maestro switches are supported.

  • Lutron RadioRA switches and keypads, but not relay outputs.

  • LiteTouch 5000LS dimmers, switches, and keypads.

  • Miro (WattStopper) dimmers, switches, and keypads

  • Universal PowerLine Bus (UPB) dimmers, switches, and keypads.

  • Vantage dimmers, switches, and keypads

  • X.10 dimmers, switches, and keypads, but the software does not support the "dim resume" feature at this time.

  • Z-Wave dimmers and switches.

Networking: Internet Access

To get access to your home over the Internet we recommend the GoToMyPC service. It provides a secure encrypted communication path without opening any inbound ports on your firewall and it works without modification to your firewall or router.

Player Pianos

If the player piano comes with an IR remote control that can be learned by the Destiny Networks’ Device Description Wizard then it can be controlled by the Domain controller.

Security Systems

The Domain controller supports the following security systems:

  • GE Interlogix Caddx NE-8E (or the NX-8 and NX-4 with the NX-584 serial interface).

This feature is now supported on the Domain 3000 in the 3.0 release. Please email support@destinynetworks.com to receive the key to turn on this layer. This feature is not supported on the Global Cache GC-100.

Configure the GE Interlogix (Caddx) Security System.

Telephone Systems

In this release, the Domain controller does not interface to any phone system. However, many integrators install the Panasonic KX-TA624 Advanced Hybrid System PBX or the new Panasonic KX-TDA50 Digital Super Hybrid System to provide homeowners with the numerous features that are available with this system. In addition, homeowners may want to add the KX-TVS50 Voice Processing System for the additional features it adds.

Timer events

The Domain controller supports timer events by time of day or time relative to sunrise or sunset. Events can repeat on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly schedule and the time at which the event occurs can be randomized by some number of minutes or hours to give the appearance that the event is being controlled by people.

Configure Timer Events.

Water: Hot Water Recirculator

Any hot water circulator/recirculator that plugs into a 110V outlet can be used (e.g., the Bell & Gossett NBF-12U Circulator).

Windows

Any window motor that works via a single relay or interlocking relays (like curtains) should work.
